Band-Aids

I was thinking about Band-Aids this morning. Don't ask me why. This is what happens when something random pops into my head. Somehow, before I know it, my brain has turned it into a business analogy. But the more I thought about Band-Aids, the more I realized they're actually pretty impressive for something we've all got shoved in a bathroom drawer next to cold medicine that expired three years ago.

You get a cut, clean it up, slap on a Band-Aid, and get back to whatever you were doing before you managed to injure yourself. It stops the bleeding, protects the wound, and most of the time does exactly what you need it to do. But imagine looking down one day and realizing you're covered in Band-Aids. One on your hand, a couple on your arm, another on your leg...and you're still reaching for the box.

So think about your business for a minute. How many things have you "fixed" over the years? Another meeting because communication wasn't working. Another process because something got missed. Another approval because somebody made the wrong decision. Another spreadsheet, another workaround, another person added because everyone was overwhelmed. Individually, every one of those decisions may have made perfect sense at the time, and some of them probably worked.

But what if you stepped back one day and realized your business was covered in Band-Aids? Maybe you don't need to immediately reach for another one. Maybe it's worth looking at all those Band-Aids and asking why you keep getting cut in the first place.

And now I've got you thinking about Band-Aids.

OGA, giving you something to think about.
